Lucknow, April 24 (IANS) Three teenagers were drowned Wednesday morning in a river while performing Navratra rituals in Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh, police said.
The bodies of two of them have been fished out by the provincial armed constabulary (PAC) divers and local people. Sonbhadra is over 400 km from here.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Ram Bahadur Yadav told IANS that the victims have been identified as Abhay, his brother Brijendra and their friend Sonu Rawat.
The trio had gone along with six other boys of the village to perform the Navratra ritual at the bank of the river in the district.
The three boys were washed away in the strong currents while others were able to swim back to the shore safely.
Police said rescue operations had been called off and it appeared that the third boy was washed away by the strong river current.
