Shimla: Summer tourist season having set in but the administration has not bothered to spruce up the city center as the step benches at The Ridge, set up for the convenience of visitors and residents, are in a state of neglect.
Does not the municipality spend on upkeep of popular tourist spots in the city, says Minakshi Sharma, a tourist from Delhi. Surely better quality of benches could be put up here at The Ridge, which is a nice viewing and resting place, she added.
Surinder Chauhan, a resident of the city lamented, “many of us often come out to bask in the Sun here, but the sitting place is shrinking as most of these step benches placed here have broken down and have been occupying prime place without serving the purpose for which they have set up.”
Municipal commissioner Amarjeet Singh, when contacted said that the municipality was short on funds. “We have written to the deputy commissioner, seeking funding for setting up new benches,” he said.
