Madrid, April 3 (IANS) Princess Cristina of Spain was named Wednesday as a suspect in a corruption case involving her husband.
The judge in charge of the case Jose Castro has ordered Cristina, the youngest daughter of King Juan Carlos, to testify in court April 27 as part of the ongoing investigation into the accusations of corruption against her husband Inaki Urdangarin and his former partner Diego Torres, who ran the NGO Noos Institute, reported Xinhua.
The Noos Institute was supposedly set up as a non-profit organization, but is accused of swindling over 6 million euros ($7.7 million) of public money, some of which was paid for projects which were never completed.
The judge believes the Noos Institute used Cristina’s name and position with her consent in order to win contracts, although Urdangarin has insisted that his wife knew “absolutely nothing” about the Noos Institute.
