Rio de Janeiro, April 2 (IANS) Peru international striker Paolo Guerrero will miss Corinthians’ Copa Libertadores away clash against Colombia’s Millonarios Wednesday due to a thigh injury.
The 29-year-old strained his right quadriceps during Corinthians’ 2-1 victory over Sao Paulo in Brazil’s Campeonato Paulista Sunday, reports Xinhua.
Former AC Milan forward Alexandre Pato, who replaced Guerrero during the second half of Sunday’s match, is set to be given a starting berth by coach Tite in Bogota.
Corinthians doctor Julio Stancatti said Guerrero had aggravated an injury suffered early last week.
“He played because he wasn’t in pain. But after the game he complained of the same problem that he had after the previous match against Penapolense,” Stancatti said.
Corinthians, the defending Copa Libertadores champions, are currently second in their group with seven points from four matches. Millonarios are last with three points.
