Madrid, April 3 (IANS/EFE) The number of people registered as unemployed fell by 4,979 in March, compared to the prior month, to 5.03 million, the Spanish Employment and Social Security Ministry said.
The figure last month was down 0.10 percent from February, the ministry said in a statement Tuesday.
The labour market’s performance last month was “significantly” different from March 2012, when unemployment rose by 38,769, the ministry said.
On a year-on-year basis, however, the number of registered unemployed rose by 284,376, or 5.99 percent.
A total of 969,627 employment contracts were issued last month, down by 85,090, or 8.07 percent, compared to March 2012.
