Ghaziabad, April 23 (IANS) Counterfeit currency with a face value of Rs.7 lakh was seized here and nine people, including two women, were arrested in two separate incidents, police said Tuesday.
One counterfeiter gang was busted Monday night at Kausambhi, where a group of six people, led by a women, were trying to circulate fake currency. After a tip off by an informer, these people were rounded up, Ghaziabad Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nitin Tiwari told reporters.
After their interrogation, raids were conducted at a few places. The total face value of fake currency recovered in this incident was Rs.650,000. Mumtaz, Hina, Rafique, Moinuddin, Nuren and Baldev were arrested. They procured the currency from across the Nepal and Bangladesh borders, police said.
In another incident, police in Sahibabad recovered fake currency of the face value of Rs.50,000 from three people who were trying to pass them off in Defence Colony area of the locality in Ghaziabad district.
Pawan Sharma, Arun Kumar and Amit, all residents of Gagan Vihar near here, were arrested.
