Jamia marks 150th birth anniversary of Motilal Nehru

New Delhi, April 2 (IANS) Commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Motilal Nehru, an exhibition is on at Jamia Millia Islamia, showcasing rare photographs of the Congress leader and father of India’s first prime minister.

The sepia-toned exhibition titled “Motilal Nehru: The Man and His Contribution”, highlights the archival traces of Motilal Nehru’s family history, his childhood and other phases of his life and career through photographs and written text panels.

A dedicated section, “The Man”, illustrates the leader’s vibrant personality and his royal lifestyle, while another section is dedicated to his days as a leading lawyer, said a Jamia release.

Another section, highlighting his role as a father, has interesting photographs of India’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s childhood and school days at Harrow. It also illustrates his association with national leaders in family home Anand Bhavan and the involvement of the father and son in the country’s freedom struggle.

It also showcases their association with Mahatma Gandhi, their days in jail and Motilal Nehru’s end without being able to see the nation’s independence.

The exhibition was formally inaugurated by Jamia Vice Chancellor Najeeb Jung March 21 and will be on view till April 10 at the university’s Premchand Archives and Literary Centre.
