Haryana rape victim meets top cop

Gurgaon, April 10 (IANS) A 15-year-old rape victim met the police commissioner here Wednesday, demanding the arrest of one of her attackers, a social worker said.

The victim was accompanied by her relatives. The rape occurred over a month ago in Bhogpur Mandi village near Sohna, 25 km from here.

The Class 8 student told Gurgaon Commissioner of Police Alok Mittal that police were not arresting the co-accused.

In her First Information Report, the girl alleged that she was raped March 3 by Attar Singh, 28, while Ramesh, 20, assisted him.

She was rescued by some women who saw her weeping.

“After hearing the victim, the police commissioner has ordered the deputy commissioner of police (south) to look into the matter and arrest the accused,” said a police officer.

“Attar Singh was arrested March 4, but police want to conduct a lie detector test on Ramesh before arresting him. We have sought the court’s permission to conduct the test,” the police officer said.
