With a motto “We sell art, not fashion”, two young college boys of the Shimla ‘Dixit and Anshul’ (labeled DNA) got together to put their creativity on show in the form of painting T-shirts which you wear them also do reflect ones interests, be it music, a sport, a popular star or others.
Dixit says “The idea of painting on T-shirts came up when Anshul asked me to paint a Bob Marley sketch on his t-shirt. The idea simply clicked and we were out on our own with this small startup business DNA”.
“We paint all kind of themes rock, metallic, abstract and bio mechanical, he says.
DNA is no brand but the creative team has attracted much attention and have built up a small fan following amokng among those who have always longed to wear a design or a much adored icon on their clothing but such clothes are rarely available in the market.
Anshul is an artist who has no formal training. He considers his fondness for painting as a gift from God. Dixit is from a family business who is out to carve a niche for himself.
Managing the business, putting together all the ram material needed is what I do, says Dixit, “while Anshul paints the t-shirts.”
Depending upon the size and design, a custom painted made T-Shirt can cost anywhere between Rs 600/- to Rs 2000/- a piece says Dixit. Each T Shirt is unique as the design on one is not repeated on another, he adds.
The duo are busy and the order book is only piling up. Out of the 37 custom orders, 25 stand completed and others are in different stages of art designing.
Most paint orders are about Bob Marley, Lord Shiva, bio mechanical theme and Johnny Depp, says Anshul.
Vaibhav Bhardwaj, a student at Punjab University and a Bob Marley fan said “Dixit happens to be my friend’s brother and it was most exciting to have a Bob Marley design on my T-shirt that just cost Rs 600, which was affordable for me.”
Given the response DNA is getting Dixit has drawn up plans for going digital.
“We want to connect with more people as it would not only help to explore our art more but also help us to earn more,” says Dixit.
DNA displays it creative clothing online and can also be bought online.
