FIFA goal project to shore up football development in Ghana

Accra (Ghana), April 3 (IANS) The FIFA Goal Project is helping modernise the management and administration of football in Ghana, a senior official of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) said here.

Charles Aryeh, a senior official of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) told Xinhua the projects aims at bridging the gap between the Europeans and some under-developed teams in Africa, Asia and South America.

The FIFA Goal Project is thus a worldwide development program to bring parity through the provision of specific needs of national associations in the area of tailor-made development and assistance programs.

FIFA’s continuous assistance to associations is however dependent on certain criteria such as prudent management, good governance and commitment to the realisation of the targets.

Aryeh, director at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence, the football home of the country, located at Prampram in the Central Region (Province), a coastal community about 60 km east of the capital, said the FIFA Goal Project had helped particularly Ghana to cut down cost in the camping of the various junior national teams.

Enumerating the various benefits Ghana had derived from the project, Aryeh said the Centre was built through funding from the Goal I Project with a grant of $400,000.

Ghana was also able to construct a multi-purpose dining and conference facility plus kitchen under FIFA’s Goal III Project at an estimated cost of $425,000.
