Ensure Musharraf does not leave Pakistan: Apex court

Islamabad, April 8 (IANS) Pakistan’s Supreme Court Monday summoned former president Pervez Musharraf in a treason case against him and directed authorities to ensure that he does not leave the country, a media report said.

The court has summoned Musharraf Tuesday in the treason case against him, reported Dawn.

The former army chief returned to Pakistan March 24 to contest elections after spending over four years in self-imposed exile.

The apex court also directed the police to ensure implementation of its order and that Musharraf appears before the bench.

The bench directed the interior secretary to ensure that Musharraf does not leave the country. It ordered that the former dictator’s name be added to the exit control list (ECL).

A two-member bench of the apex court heard the petition against Musharraf Monday.

A.K. Dogar, counsel of petitioner Maulvi Iqbal Haider, said Musharraf had imposed emergency and he should be tried under Article 6 of the constitution, reported Geo TV.
