In order to enhance beauty of the town, Dharamsala will soon be cleared of all airborne electric supply wires and ground poles. The information was provided to HillPost by Minister of Urban development Sudhir Sharma in Dharamsala.
Informing about the decision, Sudhir said, Dharamsala is one of the most favorite tourist destination for both domestic and foreign visitors. It was the summer capital in British days and is the seat of the Tibetan Spiritual leader Dalia Lama. He said, the town looks messy with all the power supply poles and wires, therefore we have proposed for an underground power line project.
Sudhir told HillPost, “The department of Urban Development had planned to provide underground supply of electricity within and around Dharamsala.” He added that “the DPR of the project is ready and has been sent to the Director Urban development Shimla, who in turn has sent it to the UD Ministry in Delhi.”
Sudhir said that Center has already nodded in affirmative to the project.
He further stated that “the total project of underground power supply in Dharamsala will cost to the tune of Rs 120 crore and we are hoping to get funds in a single go.” “This scheme will complete in 2 years after approval by center, ” he added.
