Bolivian gas shipments to Brazil, Argentina rise

La Paz, April 10 (IANS/EFE) Bolivia’s gas shipments to Brazil and Argentina rose 21 percent in March on a year-on-year basis, state-owned oil company YPFB said.

Gas shipments hit 47.42 million cubic meters per day in March, up from the 39.19 million cubic meters per day registered in the same month last year.

Brazilian oil giant Petrobras imported an average of 31.65 million cubic meters per day, while Argentina’s Enarsa purchased 15.77 million cubic meters per day, YPFB said.

Bolivia is experiencing record production and meeting its export commitments to the two foreign energy companies, YPFB CEO Carlos Villegas said.

Brazil wants gas shipments at the top end of the range it contracted because dams are at low levels, affecting hydroelectric power production.

Argentina, for its part, has petroleum-producing areas undergoing maintenance and needs the fuel, YPFB said.
