New Delhi, April 16 (IANS) Rajya Sabha member Amar Singh Tuesday met Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and sought security for Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Prada alleging that the Uttar Pradesh Police tried to manhandle her in her constituency Rampur.
“Amar Singhji met the home minister and submitted a memo. A copy has been sent to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh,” an official at Jaya Prada’s office told IANS.
Jaya Prada, who did not accompany Amar Singh, would meet Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar over the matter, her office said.
Amar Singh, who was expelled from the Samajwadi Party, alleged that a UP transport department official came along with around 40 policemen to remove the red beacon atop Jaya Prada’s car in Rampur April 13 and demanded a probe into the incident.
Blaming senior UP minister Azam Khan for the incident, he claimed that the former Mayawati government in UP had allowed MPs to use the red beacon atop their car.
