Jammu: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti Sunday blamed the deteriorating situation in Kashmir in the aftermath of Afzal Guru’s hanging on the Omar Abdullah government’s deviation from the “healing touch policy” of her party.
“The result of ignoring the PDP’s viewpoint on Afzal Guru is that Kashmir is again on boil,” she said at addressing a public meeting at Purmandal, 30 km south west of Jammu.
She said her party had asked the state government to take a lesson from Tamil Nadu and Punjab governments, who had sought mercy for death row convicts from their states, and aggressively pursue the case of the clemency for Afzal Guru but it took no concrete step.
“Instead of accommodating the viewpoint of PDP on this sensitive issue, unfortunately the present chief minister has thrown caution to the winds. And it is the result of such a casual approach that the whole process of peace and reconciliation has received a severe setback,” said Mehbooba Mufti.
“It was the outcome of the wrong policies of the present regime that the situation was again deteriorating in the state in general and Kashmir Valley in particular,” she said.
“PDP, through its assiduous efforts, had restored peace and tranquility in Jammu and Kashmir but the present regime has derailed the process of peace by its wrong decisions,” she claimed.
