Karnataka polls will test BJP’s new team: Congress

New Delhi, March 31 (IANS) The Congress party Sunday said the Karnataka assembly elections in May would be the “first test” for the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) new team.

They also took a dig at the BJP’s decision to induct Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi into the party’s parliamentary board and his aide Amit Shah as general secretary.

Congress leader and union minister Kapil Sibal said Shah was facing serious charges and the BJP had appointed him as a general secretary.

“It shows the character of the party which talks of morality,” Sibal said.

Shah, a legislator from Naranpura in Gujarat, is an accused in alleged staged shootout cases in connection with the deaths of Soharabuddin Sheikh and Tulsi Prajapati.

On Modi’s induction into the parliamentary board, Sibal said that once Modi takes over the party, “there shall be no BJP”.

Congress spokesperson Raashid Alvi said: “The 2014 general elections are far. Karnataka is the first test for the team.”
