Shimla: Intent upon enforcing party discipline, the young acting president of Congress, Sukvinder Singh Sukku today expelled 24 people from the party for 6 years and suspended another 15 for anti party activities.
Making the disclosure before media, Sukku said all the 24 members expelled from the party had contested in the recent assembly polls against the official candidates.
Those expelled include former legislators Ishwar Dass and Yog Raj.
He denied that the action taken would affect the party in the upcoming by poll for the Mandi parliamentary elections.
Indiscipline in the party would not be tolerated, he said.
He added that more workers who had worked against the interests of the party are likely to be suspended. Block, district and party candidates in the recent elections have been asked point out the black sheep in the party against whom action could be taken.
Sukku said that there would be zero tolerance to corruption, crime against women and criminal activities.
The party cadres have been asked to point out cases where functionaries are implicated in any of these activities, which are against the party’s principals. The party acting president said that on verification action would be taken against erring workers.
