“Certain areas in the state are likely to experience intermittent spells of snow and rain,” a meteorological department official told.

He said chances of snow in the higher reaches of Lahaul and Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba, Shimla, Kullu and Sirmaur districts are high.

The Met department’s forecast said the western disturbances – storm systems originating from the Mediterranean Sea and moving across the Afghanistan-Pakistan region – would remain active in the region till Jan 31.

Meanwhile, Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district was the coldest town in the state with a low of minus 14 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperatures in Shimla and Manali were 3.8 degrees and minus 5 degrees Celsius, respectively. The state capital saw a high of 12.6 degrees.

Kalpa, some 250 km from Shimla, recorded the night temperature at minus 7.9 degrees Celsius, while it was 5.8 degrees in Dharamsala, the venue of the final ODI cricket match between India and England.

Both towns experienced the day temperature at minus 2 and 15.6 degrees Celsius, respectively.
