New Delhi: China’s new leaders have promised that they will give “great importance” to relations with India, Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur said Wednesday.
This assurance was given by outgoing Premier Wen Jiabao when he met Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the sidelines of the seventh East Asia Summit in Phnom Penh last month, she told the Lok Sabha.
The minister said both leaders discussed the prospects for a Strategic and Cooperative Partnership, the impact of frequent high-level exchanges, and ways to enhance bilateral economic cooperation.
“The overall perspective in which the discussions were held was that there is enough space for the simultaneous development of both India and China,” she added in a written statement.
