DHARAMSHALA: President of India, in his capacity as the Visitor of the University, has appointed Dr. Arun Maira, Member Planning Commission as the Chancellor of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Dharamsala for a period of five years.
Disclosing this B.R. Dhiman,Registrar of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh, at Dharamshala, said , “Internationally renowned for his professional and academic contribution, Dr. Arun Maira’s appointment as Chancellor is likely to bring immense benefit to the Central University and obviously the university fraternity is obviously jubilant.”
The Vice Chancellor is likely to meet the Chancellor on 21st August 2012.
Born on 15 August 1943, Dr. Arun Maira is an alumnus of the St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University and presently serving as Member of the Planning Commission. Mr. Arun Maira was a member of the Tata Administrative Services and worked in several senior positions in the TATA Group in India and abroad.
He has worked with clients in North America, Europe, South America and Asia in industries ranging from automobiles, steel, and oil, to pharmaceuticals, and financial services.
He has worked with Confederation of Indian Industry’s (CII) National Council for many years.
Dr. Arun Maira was also Chairman of Save the Children, India, and Chairman of the Axis Bank Foundation. He has served on the boards of several Indian and international management education institutions as well.
Arvind Sharma is an award winning bi-lingual journalist with more than 20 years of experience.
He has worked with Divya Himachal, Dainik Jagran, Dainik Bhasker, Vir Partap, Ajit and PTI.
In 2010, he was conferred the Himachal Kesri journalism award. He reports on the Tibetan Government in Exile, politics, sports, tourism and other topics. He lives in Dharamshala.
