Moscow: A gigantic Persian carpet woven in the Iranian city of Nishapur has been recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s largest handmade rug.
Iran’s Press TV reported that the 133-by-48 meter rug weighs 48 tones and took 1,200 people 18 months to make it.
Iran Carpet Company head Mohammad Reza Abed said the carpet currently adorns a mosque in Abu Dhabi, where it receives some 2,000 visitors a day.
Iran accounts for about 75 percent of the worldwide trade in Persian carpets. Persian carpets are famous all over the world and carpet industry is one of the major sources of income of the country.
