Virbhadra Singh resigns from union cabinet

New Delhi: A trail court in Shimla framing charges against Virbhadra Singh in a corruption case has led to the resignation of the union minister from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s cabinet.

Union minister Virbhadra Singh called upon the prime minister and tendered his resignation. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is reported to have accepted the resignation and forwarded it to the President.

Denying the charges, Virbhadra, a five time chief minister said that he had been framed by concocting evidence.

“I resigned from the cabinet as I did not want to embarrass the party,” he said.
