Rushdie not to attend Jaipur fest

Jaipur : It’s final. Author Salman Rushdie said Friday that he would not be attending the DSC Jaipur Literary Festival following threats “from paid assassins”.

“The Satanic Verses” author sent a written statement, which was read out by the organisers of the festival.

“I have been informed by Intelligence Bureau sources in Maharashtra and Rajasthan that paid assassins from the Mumbai underworld were coming… to eliminate me… I will therefore not travel as planned,” Rushdie said in a statement.
