Man steals truckload of vodka in Russia

Moscow : An unemployed man in Russia stole a truckload of vodka and other spirits in Voronezh region but soon ran out of luck as he was detained before he could open a bottle, said police.

The incident occurred in Liski city, about 500 km south of Moscow, after the driver parked the truck in front of an alcohol store. He went inside to fill out paperwork, leaving the keys in the ignition. On return, the vehicle was gone along with its load.

City police found the truck within an hour within Liski boundaries, and arrested the thief, a 42-year-old resident of a nearby village.

The man, whose name was withheld, told police he was only interested in the vodka, not the truck.

As a result, he was slapped with joyriding, not car theft, charges, which still carry a sentence of up to five years in prison.
