Two Himachal BJP leaders resign party posts

Shimla: With two old guard Himachal BJP leaders, one who has remained minister and speaker and the other who has been a state party president, resigning from party posts simmering factionalism within ruling party spilled out in the open today.

Maheshwar Singh, a former MP and state BJP president, and Radha Raman Shastri, former speaker of the state assembly, resigned from the state BJP executive.

Singh, who is also president of Himachal Bharashtachar Mukti Morcha (Himachal anti-corruption front), floated by dissident BJP leaders, and Shastri announced their resignations at a public rally in Nahan town.

However, they made it clear that they have not resigned from the party.

“Our fight against corruption within the government would continue,” Singh, who was dropped from the party’s national executive last month said.

He said they had resigned in protest against the removal of two party leaders, who have affiliation with the Himachal Bharashtachar Mukti Morcha, from the party posts.
