Chandigarh: Largesse of advertisements handed out to a electronic channel has turned out to be one owned by deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal, something he disclosed in testimony before the Punjab and Haryana High Court yesterday.
Before a division bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Surya Kant hearing a public interest litigation filed by Himmat Singh Shergill; the deputy chief minister let the court know that Gur-Baz Media Pvt Ltd and G Next Media Ltd were wholly owned subsidiary companies of Orbit Resort Pvt Ltd.
Sukhbir Badal has substantial shareholdings in Orbit Resort Pvt Ltd.
G Next Media Ltd operates PTC news channel and Sukhbir Badal also disclosed to the court that between 2007 and 2009 PTC Channel was handed out advertisements worth Rs 78 lakhs through the state public relations department.
For the 2007-09 period the budget for electronic channels was 6.32 Cr.
The court has reserved its order in the case.
