New Delhi: With the Election Commission of India having prepared the road map for holding of assembly elections in Punjab, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Goa and Manipur, the dates for the polls are expected to be announced by evening today.
The assembly election is being considered a barometer for the Anna effect and his crusade against corruption.
Congress firmly entrenched in Delhi is in the opposition in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab.
While Rahul Gandhi makes a bid for a major breakthrough in Uttar Pradesh, elections in Punjab and Uttarakhand where Congress hopes to wrest power from ruling Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP respectively is being keenly watched.
The elections results would are also likely to impact the direction UPA reforms program takes and end the current policy paralysis that the Manmohan Singh government is facing.
