Talk to resolve Kashmir issue: Dalai Lama

Jammu : Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama Wednesday said here that talks were “the best way out” to resolve the dispute over Jammu and Kashmir.

The Dalai Lama told reporters that despite “some negative things”, there was “rule of law and open society” in the state. “I think there is freedom of speech” too, he added.

The Dalai Lama, who has lived in India since 1959, was on a day’s visit to Jammu.

“In this situation, talks will increase understanding,” he said after inaugurating a photo exhibition on Buddhist heritage sites in Jammu.

Regarding reports of alleged intrusion by Chinese troops into Kashmir’s Ladakh region, the Tibetan leader said: “This (intrusion) by Chinese troops into Indian territory is routine.”
