Must bring 26/11 perpetrators to justice: Manmohan

Addu Atoll (Maldives) : Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Thursday conveyed to his Pakistani counterpart Yousuf Raza Gilani that both countries have an obligation to ensure that terrorism does not spoil relations between them and pressed for justice for 26/11 victims.

“Terrorism is a perennial concern. We have an obligation to ensure that it does not spoil relations between the two countries,” Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai told reporters about the message Manmohan conveyed to Gilani during talks at Shangri La hotel here.

Manmohan Singh told Gilani that “it is imperative to bring the perpetrators of 26/11 attacks to justice”, said Mathai.

“The two leaders agreed that terrorism posed the most serious threat to peace and stability in the region,” said Mathai.

Manmohan Singh and Gilani met on the sidelines of the 17th South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit here. The delegation level talks lasted about 30 minutes followed by the two leaders meeting one-on-one for another 30 minutes.
