Shimla: A convicted drug dealer undergoing a ten year jail term, who was out on parole, is suspected to behind the drug haul of over 14 Kgs charas that the police seized early morning on Saturday from a car at Sainj in Shimla district.
“It was on a routine naka check at Sainj,†said Baldev Thakur, SHO Theog, “that 14.1 Kgs of charas packed in a sack was recovered from the boot of a car.â€
The night naka on a rural road is normally deployed till 5 a.m. But the five men police party on Saturday decided extend it upto 6.30 a.m.
While the police were busy checking two other vehicles, two persons got out from the third vehicle behind and quietly slipped out, said the police officer.
On checking the abandoned vehicle (HP 09B 0321) the sack of charas was recovered.
The investigation team zeroed down on Kewal Ram, a resident of Batara village in Theog.
A history sheeter, Kewal was earlier also nabbed with 3.5 Kgs of charas and has been convicted to a ten year jail term by a trial court, the spokesman mentioned.
The vehicle has been impounded and identified to belong to Kewal Ram, said the police spokesman.
Elsewhere in Mandi, police on Friday arrested Rohit Kumar a resident of Naraingarh, Ambala with 1 Kg of charas. Rohit was travelling in a bus and during a police check, the contraband drugs was found on him, police said.
Besides the two new catches, police have arrested five other persons in a week and seized about 19 Kgs of charas from them.
