Free sanitary napkins for students in government schools

New Delhi : In order to promote personal hygiene among young girls, the Delhi government Monday launched a scheme to distribute free sanitary napkins to girls studying in Classes 6 to 12.

Introducing the Kishori scheme, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said the Delhi government and its aided schools will distribute free sanitary napkins every month to young girls studying in Classes 6 to 12.

“The government believes that awareness on healthy habits should be created among young girls. The government will provide free sanitary napkins to girl students every month to ensure menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls and they are not affected with bacterial infection and cervical cancer,” Dikshit said.

The government will spend Rs.1.05 crore every month for the scheme which is being implemented across 729 government schools from Thursday and around 7.50 lakh girls will be benefited by this scheme.
