Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti was here today re-elected unopposed as the president of the regional party for a fourth consecutive term.
The 52 year Mehbooba, a law graduate, joined active politics in 1996 and was first elected from Bijbehara assembly seat as a congress candidate.
Breaking away from congress, she lost the 1999 Lok Sabha election as a PDP candidate from Srinagar; an election that was won by National Conference candidate Omar Abdullah, the current chief minister.
Stepping into her farther Mufti Mohammed Sayeed shoes, Mehbooba was first elected president of PDP in 2003, a position she has been holding ever since.
