Shimla : At least 25 people were killed and 30 injured when a bus rolled into a gorge in Himachal Pradesh’s Bilaspur district, late Monday , police said .
“The overloaded bus veered of the road and fell into a deep gorge killing 25 people including five women and injuring 30 others ,†said Sontosh Patial , S.P. Bilaspur .
“The accident took place around 6 km away from Bilaspur town , most of the passengers were Diwali shoppers from nearby villages .The rescue operations continued for four hours in the dark ,†Patial said .
The bus had broken down a short while ago and was to be replaced with a new one . The bus suddenly began to roll down and fell into a gorge , apparently the bus driver jumped out of the vehicle to safety
The state run bus was on its way from Bilaspur to Bandhla some 90 km from the state capital Shimla . The injured have been admitted in Bilaspur and Shimla hospitals
