Shimla : Six time Congress MLA from Renuka in Sirmaur district Dr Prem Singh died Friday on his birthday. He was 63 .
He suffered a heart attack at his house in village Mini Bag. He was rushed to hospital but died on the way .
He won for the first time in 1982 from Renuka a reserved seat . He was re-elected in 1985 , 1993 , 1998 , 2003 and 2007 .
He also served General Secretary district Congress committee , Chairman of the committee on welfare of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes.Chairman of the state milk federation and chief parliamentary secretary .
Presently he was Chairman of the public accounts committee .
Prior to entering politics he served as a veternary doctor in the state animal husbandary department .
Chief minister P . K . Dhumal has expressed shock at the sudden and untimely demise of Dr Prem Singh .
In a 20 year career published widely. He has worked for the BBC, AFP, The Statesman, IANS and the Business Standard . Known for his hard hitting writing and occasional off-beat stories. He lives in Shimla.
