German firm and Himachal PSU ink turbine supply deal

Shimla : Voith Hydro India, a Germany based company will supply turbines and other equipment to build the Rs 676 crore 100 MW Sainj hydro electric project in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district.

A contract agreement for the supply of electro-mechnical works was signed here Wednesday between Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (HPPCL) and Voith hydro India.HPPCL is building the project on the Beas river.

The cost of the electro-mechanical package of this project is Rs 145 crore.The agreement was signed by B.S.Negi DGM, HPPCL and D P Singh chief project manager Voith.

The type of turbines used for this project will be pelton,utilising a gross head of 4.9 m and design discharge of 28.70 cumecs,officials said.

Once complete the project will generate 322 GWh of units at Rs 3.74 unit at bus bar levelized tariff.

The Sainj project is being funded by the Asian Development Bank(ADB) under the clean energy development investment programme.
