Shimla: Refusing to bail out the students responsible for violence in a local college, the courts allowed a police remand till 11th July of all 37 persons who were arrested on Thursday.
Investigating officer and SHO Shakuntla Devi said that while police were on lookout for more culprits responsible for stone pelting and violence out Kotshere Government College on Wednesday that left several policemen and others injured, the court has remanded all the 37 students arrested for the violence into police custody till July 11.
Workers of ABVP and SFI had clashed outside the college over wooing of fresher students into joining rival political outfits.
Police had attempted to keep the two groups apart but were pelted with stones, leaving one with serious injuries on the face. Five students and two other policemen were also injured.
Efforts to recruit students to join campus political outfits for contesting college elections to held a month later is believed to have caused tension among the community that led to the violence.
