Respected sir,
On behalf of all the resident doctors in Blessington girls hostel, near Ice Skating Rink, Shimla, i am writing this article to bring into notice the difficulties we are facing.
There are around 24 rooms on each floor, with 2 student in each room, 4 bathrooms and toilets, i,e around 200 students living in a building meant for 100 only.
The room size is less then 10 by 10 feet.
The electricity drips down every now and then, there is always overloading.
The mess is too small , not even meant to accommodate 50 students.
Due to the overloaded electricity there have been sparkling and not once. twice but thrice, rooms have been caught with fire.
We were last yr told to double up , and wen we didn’t agree to it, the administration told us that the new hostel would be done in 15 to maximum of 30 days, we would get single rooms in the new hostel, i.e. last Year July.
And now its almost been a year, of pleading the hostel warden, incharge , Principal, and once we even went to the Chief Minister, but still we havn’t got the new hostel though the building been complete for more than 6months.
Only the transformer needs to be put up.
Two days back we again asked the warden to shift us without the transformer, alas both principal and the warden didn’t agree to it.
The final year students are having there exams from July 1st week, and it is very difficult to study when two are staying in a room meant for only one.

Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister dedicated Rs. three crore Girls Medical Hostel for 130 girls of IGMC here today. Dr. Rajeev Bindal, Health Minister, Shri Suresh Bhardwaj, MLA and other prominent persons of Shimla town were present on the occasion.
Chief Minister congratulated the Government Medical students and added that with the construction of the hostel the students would immensely be benefited and concentrate towards their studies. He said that State Government would review the free travel facility given to the cancer patients in HRTC buses and protect their interests.
He said that State Government was committed to provide better health care services to the people of the State at their door steps and added that all out efforts in this direction were afoot. He said that IGMC had been developed as centre of par excellence in medical education in the country where latest facilities were being provided.
He said the people earlier were to go outside the State to get these facilities but now these were available in the State. He hoped that such services would also be provided in other parts of the State in near future.
Dr. Rajeev Bindal, Health Minister said that Post Basic Nursing Course would be introduced for GNM nurses in IGMC from this academic session in which 30 nurses would get admission.
He also detailed out the developmental works carried out in last three years in IGMC, Shimla and said that MBBS seats had been increased to 100 from 65 in IGMC and 100 from 50 in Tanda Medical College whereas PG seats increased to 111 from 39 and four super speciality courses started.
Dr. Surender Kashyap, Principal, IGMC thanked the Chief Minister for providing liberal financial assistance for the college.
Present among others on the occasion were Shri Onkar Sharma, Deputy Commissioner, Shimla, S.P. and senior medical officers.
