Shimla: The Himachal High Court has directed trials courts to reduce pendency of cases, wherein the under trial prisoners are in custody for a long period of time.
Session courts of Shimla, Kinnaur at Rampur, Mandi, Kullu, Kangra, Solan and Sirmaur have been asked to dispose of the cases accused persons languishing in jail for more than a year by end of May, a spokesman of the high court stated today.
On 31st July, 2010 there were 124 cases of such under trials pending with subordinate courts. Chief Justice Kurian Joseph had designated Justice V.K. Ahuja as Judge-Incharge of matters pertaining to jails, and under trial prisoners.
With the High Court supervising the justice delivery system of such cases as many as 75 cases of imprisoned under trails, by 31st December had been disposed of by trial courts and only 49 remain to be decided.
Of the cases awaiting disposal include 18 cases before the session division Kinnaur at Rampur, two at Shimla and one at Sirmaur
There were no imprisoned under trial cases pending with subordinate courts of the subordinate courts of Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Una and Chamba session courts.
The High Court directed the subordinate courts to dispose pending cases by end of May, the spokesman said.
