Shimla: Faced with rising shortages of onions in the market, the Himachal government has got National Agricultural and Cooperative Marketing Federation (NAFED) on board to supply the states requirement by sourcing it from producing states on a no loss, no profit basis.
Chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said that NAFED had agreed to procure onion for sale in the state at the actual price and meet demand of the consumers.
The central government has asked NAFED to procure onions in Maharashtra and supply it to the consuming states on priority.
The chief minister said that the state government had appealed to stockists and retailers to ensure availability of onion and other essential commodities at reasonable prices.
The Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department had geared up its vigilance teams and raids were being conducted at places where complaints of hoarding were being received. No overcharging would be permitted, he said.
