Shimla: Saddled with large quantities of rotting apples that Himachal Produce Marketing Committee (HPMC) has procured under the marketing intervention scheme, the government company has started to convert it into organic manure, top officials disclosed.
“We have started manufacture of organic manure from the overripe fruit procured under MIS during the current harvest,†said Mohan Chauhan, managing director HPMC.
The conversion process of turning the fruit into organic manure has been started at Gumma in Kotkhai and Sanil in Jubbal area of Shimla district, he added
Objective of the scheme was to make best utilization of spoiled apples which could not be transported due to the vagaries of weather and to provide best vermin apple compost to the farmers at most competitive rates.
The manure manufacturing was being done under the able guidelines of renowned farm scientist
