Shimla: The Himachal cabinet today made changes in the power sale policies and permitted free sale of merchant power generated at hydropower plants operated by private producers.
Presided over by chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, the cabinet felt that by allowing 100 percent merchant sale of power generated by Independent Power Producers and doing away with the conditionality of the state government’s right to first refusal would encourage higher bidding for allotment of new projects, said a cabinet spokesman.
Another decision taken by the cabinet today included development of a parking-cum-commercial complex at Palampur under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode on revised terms.
The cabinet enhanced expenditure limits for President and Vice-President of Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats by amending the Himachal Pradesh Municipal (Election) (Amendment) Rule, 2010. It was also agreed to keep the post of Vice-President in Municipal Councils as un-reserved.
Free and concessional travel for state police and prison personnel in Himachal roadways buses was approved.
Concerned about the delays in supply of fertilizers, LPG and kerosene oil being faced, the cabinet adopted a resolution about requesting the central government to ensure supplies on demand basis to the state on priority.
