Shimla: Keen to set up a manufacturing unit in Himachal, the Indo-Japanese collaboration Hero Honda, which happens to be one of the world’s largest manufacturers of two wheelers, is scouting for a suitable site to set up a plant in the state, Kishan Kapoor, industry minister let the Vidhan Sabha know today.
Hero Honda has shown interest to make an investment of Rs 2200 crore in Himachal and only in June a team from the company did a survey for selecting a suitable site, the minister said in a written reply to a question by Anil Sharma, congress legislator from Mandi.
Later the minister told media persons that the company had identified about 300 acres of private land near Nalagarh in Solan district.
Though the state is awaiting a formal proposal but the company has proposed to set up auxiliary units along with the main plant at the site selected.
Hero Honda, a joint venture company between Hero group of India and auto major Honda of Japan, already had units at Gurgaon and Uttarakhand that manufacture two wheelers.
