Bus falls into river in Himachal, over dozen feared dead

Shimla: Amidst widespread rains across the state, a major bus accident has taken place at Bathera on Nerwa-Kupvi road in Shimla district, in which more than a dozen are feared to have died.

On being contacted Deputy Commissioner JS Rana told My Himachal News that by 6.30 p.m. 15 accidents victims had been rescued and 1 dead body had been recovered.

He said that the bus had left Nerwa at about 4.30 p.m and the accident is said to have taken place at about 5 p.m.

As Rana and SP Shimla RM Sharam were headed to the accident site, Rana said preliminary information reaching the headquarters was very sketchy.

There were about 40 passengers reported to be in the bus, which has rolled down the hill and fallen into Shalni River.

Even as rescue and relief operations are going on, the death toll is likely to rise with some putting the number at more than a dozen.
