Shimla: Eight limestone mine labourers were buried alive on Friday night in Sirmaur district when the roof of their hut caved in after a landslide of quarried stones brought down the side wall of the dwelling.
District police chief PD Prasad said, “eight labourers belonging to Barabanki area of Uttar Pradesh, who were working with 3 limestone mines in Sataun area of Sirmaur, died when the roof of their hut collapsed, burying them on Friday night.â€
The three limestone mine operators working in the area are Mahasu Lime, Snowwhite Lime and Himalayan Mineral Factory, the police officer disclosed.
He said that case of negligence had been registered against the mine owners and investigations were being carried.
Bodies of the victims had been recovered and their families had been informed about the tragedy, he said.
The district administration has announced immediate relief to the next of kin of the deceased.
