Shimla: To create awareness about health and nutrition as well as promote organic produce, Himachal tourism in collaboration with agriculture department is to host a 3 day organic fair and food festival here starting from June 10.
Being organized for the first time, the Organic Fair and Food Festival would be inaugurated by chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal at Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, stated a government spokesman.
The special festival was being organized with cooperation from International Centre for Organic Agriculture and Agriculture Finance Cooperation and highlights would be an organic food court by Himachal tourism where Himachali organic food dishes would be served, he added.
Other attractions would be an exhibition block at which farmers groups producing organic crops would be on display and national and international companies engaged in marketing of organic produce, organic certification organic inputs would also have exhibition stalls.
Panel discussions and workshop on organic agriculture would also be part of the festival in which focus on the strengths of Himachal would be talked about.
Agriculture University, Palampur would have a stall to display the research and development done in organic farming and live demonstration of organic technologies, documentary films would also be screened during the festival.
Exposure visits of farmers from various districts to this fair would also be conducted for acquainting them about the organic farming which needed to be exploited for securing better returns, said the spokesman.
