Shimla: Three passengers, all of them women, were killed and 21 other passengers were injured when a private carrier bus skidded of a bridge over Ali Khad, in Bilaspur, today afternoon.
In under a week this is the 3rd bus accident in Himachal in which 6 people have died and 82 have been left injured, some of the seriously.
The accident took place on Ali Khad bridge at about 1.30 p.m. between Kandrore and Bilaspur, Nandita Gupta, district magistrate Bilaspur informed. Three women were killed on the spot as the Thakur Private Coach hit a parapet throwing out some passengers. The bus was precariously was left hanging by a railing, averting a major tragedy.
Two of the dead have been identified as Lajja Dev (60) and Gurdai(35) whereas the third remained unidentified.
Gupta informed that one seriously injured passenger had been referred to PGI Chandigarh and another 8 injured persons were being treated in the district hospital. Other rescued 23 passengers received minor injuries and after being given first aid were discharged, she said.
