Shimla: To encourage investments in the industrial sector the Himachal government has created a ‘land bank’ of about 8000 bighas consisting both of private and government land spread over 6 districts, Kishan Kapur, industries minister disclosed at Delhi, today.
Speaking on the eve of ‘Himachal Day’ at the Indian International Trade Fair- 2009, the minister said that that a MoU had been agreed upon with Container Corporation to facilitate export oriented industrial units. About 80 bighas of land had been provided for the purpose to the corporation at Baddi he added.
To improve working conditions Rs 24 crore was being spent on construction of two ‘labour hostels in Baddi and an amount of Rs 10.80 crore was being spent on construction of Business Centre for for promotion of exports.
The minister said efforts were afoot to develop environment friendly tourism units and a master plan was on the anvil to identify tourism potential in rural areas. Private investors are also being invited to explore possibilities of eco friendly tourism units in Himachal, he said.
He said that possibilities of ropeways were being established to connect far off important tourist destinations. The state is also keen to promote adventure tourism in the State.
He said that at present there were 36,141 registered industrial units established in Himachal Pradesh with an estimated cost of Rs. 8,668 crore, thereby, providing employment to 2,32,954 persons.
Out of these, 426 industrial units fall in the category of big and medium enterprises, adding further that from January, 2003 to September, 2009, 12,390 proposals for setting up industrial units were approved providing of employment to 4,46,627 persons.
Earlier, he visited Himachal Pavilion and evinced keen interest in the exhibitions and proposed to market the Himachali products in the International markets under a specific brand name, which were likely to earn better price and profit.
