Shimla: Higher reaches of Kinnaur, Lahaul, Spiti and some other peaks experienced mild snow where as lower hills were lashed with heavy rains as the south west monsoon was vigorous over the region in the past 24 hours.
Reports reaching the state headquarters stated that higher zones of the tribal districts of Kinnaur, Lahaul & Spiti experienced the seasons first snowfall. Light snow was also reported on Churdhar (12,000 feet), the highest peak in the Shivalik range located in Sirmaur district.
The seasons first snow marks the onset of wintry weather in the region, making the residents pull out warm woollen clothing and brace up to face the cold days ahead.
In lower regions of the state, Mehre in Hamirpur and Amb in Una district were drenched with 154 mm and 148 mm rain being recorded at these places. Dharmshala recorded 30 mm of rain and Shimla had 11.6 mm of rain.
With the monsoon remaining vigorous, the met office has forecast more rains over the next three days.
