Shimla: The Himachal government while issuing directions for implementation of market intervention scheme for procurement of ‘Fair Average Apples’ during 2009 has stated that 56,645 tons of fruit would be procured during the season.
The procurement price under the scheme would be Rs. 5.25 per kg and HPMC and HIMFED, both government agencies would handle the procurement process.
The scheme would be implemented between 1-8-2009 to 31-10-2009. To compensate up for transportation losses due to evaporation of fruit juice content 2.5 % extra fruits would be procured from the orchardists.
The fruits shall be procured only from those farmers who possess Horticulture Card and no fruit would be procured from the contractors.
Twenty percent (20%) procurement would be done in plastic crates under the Scheme on pilot basis his year and for this purpose, some procurement centers would be identified on particular routes and no procurements would be done in gunny bags in such centers or routes, a government spokesman said.
