Shimla: Tribal household tourism festival in scenic Sangla valley of Kinnaur gets underway on 27-28 June and the participants besides exhibiting local handicrafts and traditional cuisines, would provide a interface where the ageless culture of the high mountain valley would be shown.
Vidya Kiran Negi, chairman of the festival said holding the first such festival last year did convince natives that traditional crops like buckwheat, phafra, barely and apricots had a high value from the tourist perspective.
“Sangla Food Festival†would be the main attraction of the event and would also counters for display and sale of handicraft, handloom, dry fruits, pulses, buckwheat, apricot oil, agriculture tools and other items.
To sensitize the inhabitants towards the vulnerability of mountain communities, Shimla based Himalayan Research Group, a NGO in collaborating with experts from Palampur agricultural university would organise a debate around ‘Opportunities and Risks of Climate Change on Habitation and Farming in Highlands’ the organisers stated.
